Rowan magazine 43号から初の作品です。今回のマガジンには、それほど編みたいものが無かったのですが、何も作らないのも勿体ないような気がしたので「GENO」に挑戦しました。マガジンで難易度３とついている作品に挑戦するのは初めてだったので始める前は「ちゃんとできるかなー」とちょっと心配。
バックはレースではなくメリヤス編みなので難なく終了。前身頃のレース部分に取りかかりました。ここは、右上一目一度と左上一目一度がよく出て来るので、間違えないように編み図をコピーして、それぞれ別の色で ハイライトしながら少しずつ進めました。このレースパターンの進め方について、ravelryを通じて質問をいただいたので、その際の回答を参考に下につ けてみました。
レースパターンの進め方==================================================================
レースパターンの進め方で鍵となるのが、マガジンの説明にもある通り「ensure that a st is decreased for every st that is increased so that number of sts remains constant, except where shaping occurs」ということです。つまり、減らし目と増し目が常にセットになっているため、（脇の増減を除いて）目数は常に一定になります。
そのため、サイズ８〜20を編む場合は、パターンを少し変える必要があります。
例えば、サイズ12を作っている場合。「left front chart（113ページ）」で、「12」と示された縦のラインの左側から始める事になります。最初の４段については、チャートの通りで問題有りません。
しかし、５段目の最初の目は、yfwdからKに変える必要があります。これは、先程ご紹介したマガジンの説明通り、減らし目と増し目が必ずペアになってい る必要があるからです。5段目の最初のyfwdの目のペアである減らし目は、12のラインの右側にあります。このため、チャートのままyfwdで編んでし まうと、一目多くなってしまうのです。その他の段についても、この法則にしたがって、自分のサイズにあわせてチャートを調整する必要があります。

完成＆着用写真です。大物のレースパターンに初めて挑みましたが、結構楽しかった！編みがいがありますね。
ひとつ意外だったのが、袖が思ったより「バルーン」だったこと。マガジンの着用写真ではあまりそのように見えないし、ravelryで完成した写真を載せていた人は、長袖にアレンジしていたようなので分かりませんでした。甘くなり過ぎないようにどうコーディネートするかが思案どころですね。

My first project from Rowan Magazine 43. In this issue, I didn't have much project I wanted to knit compared to other Rowan magazines. But it would be a waste if I don't knit any from it. So I tried to knit GENO. It's my first challenge to knit a project marked as "for the more experienced knitter" in the magazine.
The back site of the project was simple stockinette stitch.

There are many "K2tog" and "S1 K1 psso" for front lace patterns. So not to make mistakes, I made a photocopy of the pattern and highlighted each of them with different colors. Also, a friend through ravelry gave me a question about the lace pattern. I attach my answer for this as below as tips for the lace pattern.
The finished project as above photos. The sleeves are more like balloon shape than I thought. The photo in the magazine didn't seem like that. To wear this cardigan, I think I need to be careful not to be too sweet style.
=Tips for the lace pattern=
The key point is to “ensure that a st is decreased for every st that is increased so that number of sts remains constant, except where shaping occurs” as the magazine says.
It means we should tweak the pattern a little bit to make size 8 to 20.
Please see the “left front chart” on page 113. For example, if you knit size 12, you are starting from the vertical line marked as 12. For first 4 rows, please knit exactly same as the chart.
On the 5th row, the first yfwd(yo) should be changed to K. Because as the key point says, decrease st and increase st match everytime (like they are buddy). The buddy for this YO is in the right side of the vertical line marked as 12. So it means, if you YO as the chart says, the sts can’t remain constant.
Please keep this rule and tweak your chart fit to your size.
ベレーは、Louisa Hardingの本のパターンを使いました。もとのパターンは、Rowan 4ply softとRowan Yorkshire Tweedを使った冬用の帽子です。これを、4ply cottonとCotton glaceの組み合わせに変更。昨年ベストやカーディガンを作った余り糸３種と、あとは妹からもらった紫と緑の余り糸を組み合わせました。
もともとは、「Guns N' Rosesのイジーみたいな（古い？）つばのついたベレーが欲しい」という夫の希望でした。で、ツバのついた帽子を本やネットで確認したところ「plastic meshをカットしてツバの土台を作る（Stitch 'N bitch nationより）」とか書いてあって、なんかちょっとハードルが高いし、「夏糸でそれをつけて、重さで下に垂れちゃったりしたら嫌だなー」と思って、「それはまた冬に挑戦するね」ということで誤摩化して（？）、希望とは全く違った帽子を作ってしまいましたー。
ベルトは、一昨年買った本「かぎ針編みでスイスイ作れるナチュラル糸こもの」（河出書房新社）のパターンを使いました。もとのパターンでは、４色のベルトでしたが、緑が好きだし春なので、一色足して５色にしました。フリンジがかなり長いので、普段は蝶結びで横に結んでいます。この間、細身のジーンズの上にして歩いていたら、すとんと足下に落ちてしまって、後ろを歩いていたインドの人に笑われました。それ以来、気をつけて多少しっかり目に結ぶようにしています。

I made spring accessories for myself and my husband.
For beret, I used a pattern from a book titled hats gloves scarves by Louisa Harding. The original pattern used Rowan 4ply soft and Rowan Yorkshire Tweed, but I replaced them to 4ply cotton and cotton glace by using stashed yarns.
My husband's original request was a beret with brim like IZZY of Guns N' Roses wears. I found a pattern from "Stitch 'n bitch nation", and it said "cut plastic mesh for brim". I thought it's heavy for summer yarn to attach brim, so I finally made totally different beret from his request. Hahaha. I told him I will try the beret with brim next winter.
For belt, I used a patten from Japanese crochet book. The original pattern uses only 4 colors, but I added green because I like green and I thought it's good for spring.

Stash整理プロジェクトとして、パピーの手編みの本 vol.6から、レッグウォーマーを作りました。もとのパターンでは、色の部分にミュルティコを使っていますが、１月にスカーフに使って余っていた「Rowan tapestry」の糸を代わりに使いました。今まで知らなかったのですが、ニットの基礎本をみていたら、編み込み模様は、左右の手にそれぞれ地糸と配色糸をかけて編むと良いと書いてあったので、試してみました。いつもはフランス式で編んでいるので、アメリカ式にあたる右手が、最初はかなり辛かったのですが、慣れてみるとなかなか楽しかったです。また是非編み込みに挑戦したくなりました。もうすっかり春の気候になってきたので、実際使うのは来年ですね。

２月〜３月にかけて完成したプロジェクトです。
一つ目は、「北欧ワンダーニット 不思議ですてきな10のテクニック」（林ことみ、文化出版局）から、リストウォーマーを作りました。スウェーデンではNäverstickningと呼ばれる編み方で、日本のあじろ編み、英語ではEntrelacという編み方に近いものだそうです。小さいモチーフがどんどん組み合わさって格子が出来ていく様子は楽しいですが、モチーフがそれぞれ小さいので「編み甲斐」があるかというとそうでもないといったことろです。出来上がりは、手首にぴったりフィットですが、その分着用するとき（手のひらを通すとき）が結構キツいので、要注意です〜。
そして、二つ目は、Rowan Studio issue 8から、「kimono style waistcoat」。キモノスタイルの名の通り、ウエストの部分の減目／増し目が全くないので、ラクラク編めます。Sサイズの場合、５玉で編めるって所も魅力です。
後ろ身頃を終わったところで、「あら〜、なんか色の選択間違えたかな？ゴジラの鱗（あれはうろこ？）みたいー」という結果に。Studioに載っている写真は、グレーなんです。で、模様がよく見えず、こんなに鱗っぽい柄だとは思っていなかったんですよね。
まあ、とりあえず作ってみようかと思って、そのまま編み進めました。前立て、袖、襟も別々に作らず、１）後ろ身頃、２）左前身頃、３）右前身頃の３つを作れば良いので、本当に楽チンでした。とりあえず、前立てとか袖がついたら、少しはゴジラっぽさが軽減したような気もしてきました。
しかし、着用してみたら、Sサイズなのにかなり大きく仕上がってしまいました〜。早く編みたかったし、「Rowanのは大体ゲージあうから良いか」と油断して、スワッチを作らなかったのが原因かも...。仕方なく、母にプレゼントしました。始めての糸＆脇の増減が無い場合、サイズに要注意！という事を学びました。

Projects which I completed in February and March.
The first one is wrist warmers using a pattern from a book titled "Nordic Knitting Ten fabulous techniques" by Kotomi Hayashi.The technique is called Näverstickning in Swedish, and it's similar to Ajiro ami in Japanese and Entrelac in English. It fits my wrist very much, so it means, it's too tight when wearing.
The second one is kimono style waistcoat using a pattern from Rowan Studio issue eight.
I choose the green color, so it seems like Gozilla!! However, it was very easy to knit because it was constructed only from back, right front, and left front. No need to knit sleeves, collar, and button band seperatedly. I choose S size, but it became larger than I thought. So I gave the finished project to my mother.

１月半ばに引っ越しをしました。しかし、新居のエアコンが壊れていて、修理を頼みましたが結局直らず、最終的には新しいものを取り付けてもらうことになりました。それまでの２週間はホットカーペットでしのぎましたが、「やっぱり一番冷えるのは首と肩！」と実感。ネックウォーマーがとっても編みたくなってしまいました。
で、ネットで探していて出会ったのがこのパターン。Rowan studio sevenの「cable neck piece」。これなら首も肩も暖まるし、これぞ求めていたもの！しかも、使われているRowan Big Woolはちょうど一玉余っているし。

８つあるうちの左上のパターンです
急遽、イギリスの毛糸屋さん「colourway」に本と毛糸を注文しました。ちょうどポンド→円も良い感じだったし。土曜日に注文して次の金曜日には届きましたよ！早い！
糸がBulkyなので、すぐ編めました。暖かさ抜群です！（ちょっと重いですけどね）10mmの棒針が短めの物しか無かったので、新しいのを買いにいかずに横着してそのまま編んだら想像してたよりタイトフィットになってしまいました。パターンで書いてあるサイズは幅52cmですが、私の完成品は伸ばして51cm、伸ばさないと46cmぐらいです。スワッチではちゃんとゲージがあっていたのに、やはり、短い針のせい...? 一応コートの上から被ることもできますが、その場合ちょっと動きにくいです。
他に最近編んだ小物としては、ミトンです。Louisa hardingのknitting little luxuriesを参考に編みました。Louisa hardingさんのパターンは、シンプルで使いやすいので好きです。この本は、帽子、マフラーなどの小物をはじめ、WRAPやカーディガン等も載っていて、編みたいものいっぱいです。パターンの糸は、Louisa hardingの糸が使われているようです。

I moved house in mid January, and found that the heat was out in my new house. During repairing the heater, I only had an electric carpet to warm my new room, so I really wanted to knit something make my neck and shoulder warm. I searched online and I found the right pattern, "cable neck piece" in Rowan studio seven. I also had one stash of Rowan Big wool, so I thought it's perfect! And then, ordered the book and 2 other balls of yarn to Colourway.

The yarn is bulky, so I could finish it fast. It's a bit heavy but so warm. I fits really tighter than I thought. The chart in the book shows 52cm in width, but mine is 51 cm when stretched and 46cm unstretched. My swatch was accurate though, it may be because I only have short needle and used it.
The other accessory which I recently finished was mittens. I used a pattern from "knitting little luxuries" by Louisa harding. I like her pattern because it's simple and good for daily clothes. The book contains patterns of cap, scarf, wrap and cardigan by using Louisa harding yarns.

11月から12月にかけて、Rowan Magazine 42号から２つのプロジェクトを完成させました。
一つ目は「BRIDGES」。ロングベストです。
昨年は、色々なお店でロングベストをみかけました。もちろん買えばすぐに着られますが、なんとなく「ベストは袖がないから早く出来るし、自分で編みたい」と思って、お店では購入しませんでした。で、ちょうど良いパターンを探していたところ、みつけたのがこのパターン。
編んでいる間は、あまり長過ぎてもっさりしても嫌だなと思っていたので、パターンより気持ち短めに作ったのですが、もう少し長くても良かったかなと思いました。因みに、出来上がりの長さは、71.5cmぐらいです（マガジンではサイズ8で72cm)。1.2玉ぐらい余りました。
パターンは、一度模様を理解してしまえば、落としたり間違えてしまっても、十分やり直しできます。私の場合は、スワッチの編み初め段階では、良くわからなかったので、一度8段分を編み図におこしてみました。そうるすと視覚的に分かりやすかったので、もし分からない場合は、オススメです。
適度に暖かくあわせやすいので、この冬活用しています。
２つ目は、「TARTAN SCARF」です。
マガジンの写真では、３種の配色で掲載されています。私の作ったものは、「1st colourway」で、他の２種は写真が大きめに掲載されていますが、この色合いは全体が分かりにくい写真しか掲載されていませんでした。でも、枯れ葉のような感じで（？）、秋冬らしい雰囲気なので、思い切ってチャレンジ。
結果はこの通りです。コートにちょうど合う色合いで良かったかな。
パターンはとてもシンプル。
しかし、２つの縦ストライプをそれぞれ別の玉からとっていくので、こんがらがりやすいのが難点。それから同じ理由で、「B」の色（ストライプ用）として指定されているTapestryが二玉必要なのですが、余った糸をはかってみたらそれぞれ32gと24gだったので、一玉だけ買って半分ずつ巻き直して使っても良さそうです。でもその場合、あらかじめフリンジ分を残しておく必要がありますね。

My recent 2 projects from Rowan Magazine 42.
The first one is a long vest titled BRIDGES.
This fall/winter, I often saw long vests in clothing stores. I knew that if I buy one, I could wear it from the next day. But I thought like "I can knit vest faster than sweater because it doesn't have sleeves", so I didn't buy any. And then, I found this pattern from the Rowan magazine.
While knitting this pattern, I thought I didn't want to make it too long, because of the balance. However, after finishing it, I realized that I could make it longer. Mine was 71.5cm long (the recommended length of the magazine is 72cm). About 1.2 balls of yarns were left.
Once learning the pattern, I can easily fixed my mistakes when I dropped or mistaken stitches. When I started to knit a swatch, I couldn't understand the pattern. But by making chart based on the 8 rows consist pattern, I could understand it.
The vest is moderately warm and can be enjoyed by various coordinates.
The second one is TARTAN SCARF.
There are three colourways in the magazine. I made the 1st colourway version. In the magazine, photos of other 2 colorways are very clear, but the 1st one is a blur. But it seems nice color as withered leaves and I thought was good for fall/winter. So I challenged that one.
The result is as the photo above. I am glad that it fit to my coat.
The pattern is very simple. But the yarns were easily tangled, because these two vertical stripes are made by 2 other balls of yarn (same color). Also, because of the stripes, it requires 2 balls of Tapestry yarn for color B. After I finished the project, each of the leftover balls weighs 32g and 24g. So it can be made by 1 ball, and rewind it to two. (In this case, please note that you need yarns for fringe.)

最近の２件のプロジェクトをアップロードします。
一つ目は、Rowanの「studio issue four」から、「LUCETTA」というパターンです。以前作ったKim Hargreavesの「buttercup」と模様が似ていたので、作りやすかったです。
シンプルなパターンなので、模様に慣れれば意外と早くできます。軽くて暖かく、着心地のよいセーターに仕上がりました。
２つ目は、VOGUE knittingの昨年の冬号に載っていた「Circular striped shrug」です。ストライプにするために、沢山の糸を使うので、「高くなっちゃうしどうしようかなー」と迷ったのですが、デザインが好きでどうしても作りたかったので、ユニオンウールさんのセール時に思い切ってまとめて糸を買いました。
そうしたら、その後、Jaegerの糸は今後発売されないということが分かったので、「さよならイエーガー」プロジェクトとしてちょうど良かったかもしれないと思いました。
身頃は、背中のパネルを作った後、輪針でどんどん編み進めていけば出来上がり！簡単です。
しかし、袖に入ったところで一つ問題が...
「あれ、もしかして一色足りない？」
パターン内では、色がA〜Kまで11色出てくるのですが、使用する糸の説明には、なぜか「C」にどの色を使うか書いていなかったのです。で、身頃の部分（Sサイズの場合）には、「C」の色が出てこなかったので、気付かなかったのですが、袖で初めて気付いた。
早速、Vogue Knittingウェブサイトの質問用アドレスにメールを出しましたが、全く返事が来ない〜。先ほどもう一度サイトを確認しましたが、質問後一ヶ月ほどたった今もまだ訂正はアップされていませんでした....) 仕方が無いので、写真から色を判断。多分、クリームかホワイトだと思ったので、以前使って残っていた似たような色の糸を使ってみました。
袖は、棒針で編んで綴じるように書いてありましたが、綴じるのが面倒なのでそのまま輪編み（４本針で）しましたが、問題ないようです。

I'm uploading 2 recent projects.
The first one is LUCCETTA from Rowan studio issue four. The lace pattern is similar to Kim Hargreaves's Buttercup which I made this summer, so it was easy to knit.
If you are learned the pattern by making a swatch, it will be easy to knit the project. The sweater is light and warm, so it's comfortable to wear.
The second one is Circular striped shrug from VOGUE knitting, winter 2006/07. It contains one basic yarn and 11 more different yarns for making stripes, so I ordered the yarns at bargain sale of a Japanese yarn shop. After I bought the yarns, Jaeger announced to discontinue its yarns, so I think the project is good for farewell to Jaeger.
After making a small back panel, whole body can be knitted by circular needles. It's fun and easy!
But when I started sleeves, I found one problem...
The project should have 11 colors numbered from A to K, but there was no indication of which color I should use for color "C". It doesn't need color C in body (for small size), so I realized it when I started sleeves.
I sent E-mail to Vogue knitting website, but I haven't receive any reply. Even when I checked the site now, it past about a month, there is no indication of errata at the website. I checked the photo in the magazine and it seemed color white or cream was for color C. So I used similar color from my stash.
The pattern explained to knit the sleeves by straight needles and sew the sleeve seams, but I think it will be easier to circular knit by 4 straight needles. I did so, but it seems OK.

Rowanの「The Bamboo Tape Collection」という本のなかから、「Akina」というプロジェクトを編みました。この本には、「Haru」「Sakura」「Kosue(?)」など、日本の女性の名前がつけられた12作品が掲載されていて、もちろん全てBamboo Tapeが使われています。
以前、テープヤーンのCotton Tapeを使った時は、糸が巻いてしまって編みにくかった覚えがありますが、Bamboo Tapeは糸が巻くこともあまり無く、編みやすかったです。ゴム編みとメリヤス編みだけのシンプルなパターンなので、パーツをつなぐ前は、「あれ？こんなもんかな？」という感じだったのですが、全てつないで立体になったら意外と良かった！しかも、バンブーテープ、着心地が割と良いです。
ただ、袖が長めです。もともと袖が長いデザインなのだと思いますが、それにしても...長い。気になる方は、ちょっと短めに作った方が良いかもしれません。

I finished "Akina" from a book titled Rowan Bamboo Tape Collection. The book contains 12 projects
using Rowan Bamboo Tape, and each project has Japanese women's name such as Haru, Sakura, and Kosue(?). (The last name sounds strange...)
When I knitted Rowan cotton tape, the yarn twisted very much and it was frustrating. But Bamboo Tape didn't twist much, so it's comfortable to knit.
The pattern is very simple, only using rib and stockinette stitches. Before sawing each parts, it seemed too simple. But after sawing all the parts, it was nicer than I thought. Also, it's very comfortable to wear.
One thing I want to point out is length of sleeves, it is very long. So if you prefer shorter sleeve, I recommend to adjust the length of sleeves as you like.
Kim Hargreavesの以前のコレクションから、「BUTTERCUP」を編みました。
思ったより時間がかかりました。間に旅行に出ていたこともありますが、一ヶ月強ぐらいかかりました。
まず、このパターンに慣れるのに、割と時間がかかりました。
ちゃんとスワッチも編んだのですが、後ろ身頃の最初の30段は、度々間違えて3回ぐらいやり直しをしました。
それから、これはちょっと間抜けなミスなのですが、前身頃の増し目を一番端で行いながら進んで行ったところ、こんな風に（写真左側）前立てがガタガタになってしまったのです...。ちょっと考えれば分かる事なのですが、「変だなー」と思いながらそのまま両前身頃を一度編み上げてしまいました。で、先にこのパターンを編んでいた妹に完成品をみせてもらって、初めて「やっぱり間違いだったのね」と分かったのです。これをほどいてやり直したので、結構時間がかかったのですね。両前身頃をほどくのは、とても悲しかったです（泣）。
でも出来上がりは満足！
色も、ちょっとかすれた感じで気に入っています（一番下の写真と、着た写真の中間ぐらいの色が実際の色です）。

I finished the project, "BUTTERCUP" by using a pattern of Kim Hargreaves.
It took time more than I thought. This is because I took much time to learn this lace pattern, so I knitted and unknitted the first 30 rows several times.
Then, I made big mistake as the photo above. (The 3rd photo. Left side in the picture) I increased stitch at the last stitch of front edge, and finished both left and right fronts. After that, I asked my sister, she already finished this project last year, to show the finished one, I found that it was mistake. So I unknitted almost all of the both fronts, and knitted again. Therefore, I took much time to finish.
Finally I'm very satisfied with the result, and especially I like the color very much.
最近編んだクロップドジャケットです。
ROWAN Magazine No. 39 (2006年春夏号）の「Crinkle」というパターンを使ってます。
2週間前に完成していましたが、なかなかアップしなかったその訳は...
ずばり、着て撮影するのが暑かったからです。
怠け者ですね。
「Crinkle（＝しわが寄る、縮れる）」という名前の通り、リボンを引っ張って編み地を
寄せることで、下の写真の通り短めのジャケットにもなります。
長めと短めとどっちが使いやすいかな？
秋に着るのが楽しみ。
ちなみに、XSで編みましたが、1.8玉分ぐらいあまりました。

My recent project is a cropped jacket.
I used a pattern called Crinkle from Rowan Magazine No. 39.
I finished this project about two weeks ago.
It took time to upload this because its too hot to wear this for taking photo...
I know I'm lazy.
By crinkling, it can be shorter jacket as the second photo above.
I'm looking forward to wearing this in autumn.
By the way, I used XS pattern, and about 1.8 balls of yarn were left.
